The current tensions and violence in Northern Ireland, as always in these situations, involves a number of dimensions interacting with each other. Most immediately there are the rioters, young people looking for a bit of excitement and reliving the memories of the troubles of 30 years ago, in which they were too young to take part. In some ways they could be the disaffected and bored young people in any society, with few outlets and opportunities. They are probably not much motivated by (…)
